2013 SECTION M, PART A 5A-351/SA-351M SPECIFICATION FOR CASTINGS, AUSTENITIC, AUSTENITIC-FERRITIC (DUPLEX), FOR PRESSURE-CONTAINING PARTS SA-351/SA-351M fy (Identical with ASTM Specification A351/A35iM-00) SA351/SA-351M SPECIFICATION FOR CASTINGS, AUSTENITIC, AUSTENITIC-FERRITIC (DUPLEX), FOR PRESSURE-CONTAINING PARTS B re SA-351/SA-351M iy ‘emareat (denial with ASTM Speciation A361/A 3518-00) Scope LL This specification covers austenitic and austenitic- ferritic (duplex) steel castings for valves, flanges, ftings, and other pressure-containing parts (Note 1). [NOTE 1—Cushon steecastng for pressore-coniining pats recovered bby Specitcation A216/4 216M, and low-aloy sce catings by Speci ceaon 820778 217% 12 A number of grades of austenitic and austenitic. fetrtic stee] castings are included in this specification. Since these grades possess varying degrees of suitability for service at high temperatures or in corrosive environ _ments, itis the responsibility ofthe purchaser to determine which grade shall be furnished. Selection will depend on design and service conditions, mechanical properties, and high-temperature or corrosion-resistant characteristics, or both, 1.2.1 Because of thermal instability, Grades CE20N, CF3A, CFIMA, and CF8A are not recommended for ser- vice at temperatures above 800°F [425°C] 1.2.2 Because of embrittlement phases, Grade (CD4MCu is not recommended for service at temperatures above 600°F [316°C]. 1.3 The values stated in either inch-pound units ot SE units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently ofthe other. Combining Values from the two systems may result in nonconformance ‘with the specification 2. Failure to comply with the general requirements of Specification A. 703/A 703M con stitutes nonconformance with this specification. In case of conflict between the requirements of this specifietion and Specification A 703/A 703M, this specification shell prevail 32 The post weld heat treatment requirements of Sup- plementary Requirement $11 may be specified when aus- tenitic castings other than HK, HT, or CTISC are to be subjected to severe comosive service 4. Ordering Information 4.1 ‘The inquity and order should include or indicate the following: 2013 SECTION I, PART A 4.1.1. A description of the casting by pattern number oo drawing, (dimensional tolerances shall be included on the casting drawing) 4.1.2 Grade of steel, 4.13. Options in the specification, and 4.14. Supplementary requirements desire, including the standards of acceptance, 5S. Process 5.1 The steel shall be made by the electric fumace process with or without separate refining such as argon- ‘oxygen decarburization (AOD). 6. Heat Treatment 6.1 All castings shall receive a heat treatment at the temperature specified in Table 1, followed by a quench in ‘water or rapid cool by other means except as noted. [NOTE 2 — Proper heat treatment ofthese allays is usually necesiry to enhance corrosion rvistance and i some eaies to mest mecbanicat ‘properties. Misimam heat-eat temperatures ae specified; however, it ‘sommes necesito het reat at higher temperatures, old for some minima tine temperature an then rapidly cool the casings in der to enbance the corosion resistance and meet mechanical properties. 7. Chemical Composition 7A. The steel shall conform to the requirements as to chemical composition prescribed in Table 2. 8. Tensile Properties 8.1 Steet used for the castings shall conform to the ‘requirements s to tensile properties prescribed in Table 3. 9. Quality 9.1 The surface of the casting shall be examined visu- ally and shall be free of adhering sand, scale, cracks, and 599 SA-351/58-951M hot tears. Other surface discontinuities shall meet the visual acceptance standards specified in the order. Visual Method SP 55 or other visual standards may be used to define acceptable surface discontinuities and finish. Unacceptable visual surface discontinuities shall be removed and theie removal verified by visual examination of the resultant cavities. 9.2. When additional inspection is desired, Supplemen- tary Requirements $5, 6, and $10 may be ordered. 9.3 The castings shall not be peened, plugged, or impregnated to stop leaks. 10. Repair by Welding 10.1. Repairs shall be made using procedures and weld- ers qualified under Practice A 488/A 488M, 10.2 Weld repairs shall be inspected tothe same quality standaeds that are used fo inspect the castings. When cast- ings are produced with Supplementary Requirement 85 specified, weld repairs on castings that have Teaked on hydrostatic test, or on castings in which the depth of any cavity prepared for repair welding exceeds 20% ofthe wall thickness or I in. [25 mm], whichever is smaller, of on castings in which any cavity prepared for welding is greater than approximately 10 in. (65 em’), shall be radiographed to the same standard that are used to inspect the castings. ‘When castings are produced with Supplementary Require- ment S6 specified, weld repairs shall be inspected by liguid ‘penetrant examination tothe same standards that are used to inspect the castings.
