Reflection Essay

I learned that I needed more time and patience and more methodical research so that’s

exactly what I tried to do for this essay. I learned from ethics that there are many perspectives on

a topic or argument. If you view it ethically your options and perspectives of the topic grow

much more.

I learned that many articles that were used weren’t peer-reviewed. I learned from my

statics lab that we have a library database available that allows us to search for peer-reviewed

sources. Inaccurate information is often in non-peer-reviewed articles so using these articles

from the libraries database was extremely helpful.

Using the libraries resources for peer-reviewed sources could apply to every single course

throughout the rest of my college education. I also learned analyzing these specific peer-

reviewed sources much more thoroughly yields a much better discussion or article. So I’ll

definitely be providing much more knowledgeable information from peer-reviewed sources.

Something I don’t think will be very applicable will I guess be the information I

presented. The writing process of this type of essay, the research gathered for it, even the

annotated bibliography I feel are all extremely helpful and useful tools for almost every single

class going forward. I don’t think there is anything I won’t take other than the non-peer-reviewed

sources out of the annotated bibliography which I did.

It helped tremendously, it helped me realize how important information your presenting

is on any subject. Whenever you’re researching a certain topic and are required to refer to

sources you’re forced to analyze these sources very thoroughly. Through analyzing these sources

for the annotated bibliography I was already eager to get to writing the essay because of the way

I was analyzing information from the sources. It creates a much better understanding and

foundation of whatever argument or claim you’re making and you do your best to back it up with

the sources you’ve deeply analyzed. Going forward I’m definitely going to take my time when

reading through peer-reviewed articles or any scholarly information given by an instructor.

I feel my writing strengths were presenting a solid foundation of the topic that’s being

researched. My weaknesses I feel are that I don’t always transition between sources or sentences

that great. As well as being careless when picking peer-reviewed sources but all of which are

going to be worked on. In comparison to 1301 I feel I’ve done a much better job explaining a

topic or evidence and providing background evidence for it from outside sources.

I hope the MLA format is correct this time, I was very shocked to see I didn’t have it

right the first time but it had to do with my works cited page. I hope that my sources presented

and the way I presented them were correct unlike my last essay. Lastly I hope I can get the

overall topic of the essay correct.

The most challenging part was probably singularly going through each peer-reviewed

source and then picking 10 of them. The least challenging part was probably writing about the

topic itself, though tying in the evidence from the sources used was difficult as well. Due to the

topic I could generally talk about it for pages and pages without any information, but being

forced to use the sources was a bit challenging in that I had to make myself realize that I’m

simply gathering information rather than sharing my own.
