Topic of Lesson: Slave Narrative (Twelve Years a Slave) cont.
Objective: Students will examine the treatment and experience of slaves
during the Civil War by looking at a slave narrative and
demonstrate their understanding of events by writing a journal
entry.

Tuesday
Topic of Lesson: Was Lincoln Racist?
Objective: Students will examine documents written by President Abraham
Lincoln highlighting his views on slavery and complete a t-chart
graphic organizer that exhibits their understanding of the
readings.

Wednesday
Topic of Lesson: Philosophical Chairs
Objective: Students will engage in a philosophical chairs discussion that
addresses the question “Was Abraham Lincoln racist?” using their
t-chart graphic organizer and primary source documents from the
day before and demonstrate what they learned by completing a
brief write-up about their takeaways from the discussion.
