SUBJECT: Landing Gear - Wheels and Brakes - Introduction of a New Paint Primer

1. Effectivity

All Goodrich Main Wheel Assemblies

All Goodrich Nose Wheel Assemblies

All Goodrich Brake Assemblies

2. Reference

Goodrich Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM’s)

3. Purpose

To tell operators that wheel assemblies and brake assemblies made after November 2006
will have a new primer. The new primer is chromate-free and permits Goodrich to meet
the revised permissible exposure limit (PEL) for hexavalent chromium enforced by the
Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This regulation serves as
the minimum standard for general industry within the United States, including Goodrich
Aircraft Wheels and Brakes, Troy manufacturing facility and service centers. The current
chromated primers and application procedures do not comply with the revised PEL
requirement.

The new chromate-free primer is approved for use on in-service components.

Application of the chromate-free primer does not impact the part numbers.

4. Reason

The new chromate-free primer reduces environmental impact. The benefits of the new
primer include:

- Performance of coating system consistent with current chromated primer

- Meets OHSHA regulations
- Complies with MIL-PRF-85582 (as does the current chromated primer)
- Water reducible
- Low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
- Dry time consistent with current chromated primer
- No induction time required
- No new application equipment required
