9 Treasure

Dear Parent/Carer
Your child is about to start Unit 9 of their English course book Footprints 1. The topic of this unit is
the countryside. In this unit your child will learn to name and talk about different things we see in the
countryside. This language is introduced through a song and a rhyme:
Where’s the treasure? (track 36) Follow me! (track 38)

Look at the flowers and the grass Follow, follow, follow me

Look at the bush and the tree Let’s jump to the rock
Where’s the treasure? One, two, three!
Oh, please tell me!
Let’s skip to the flowers …
Look at the river and the path Let’s hop to the river …
Look at the fence and the gate Let’s run to the gate …
Where’s the treasure? Let’s walk to the tree …
Are we too late?

Your child will learn about how we can recycle rubbish. Your child will also listen to the final episode of
the Treasure Trail story, will make and play with the Little Footprints Book, and play a game to practise
saying specific sounds in English. Your child will also learn a traditional song and game:

If you’re happy (track 39)

If you’re happy and you know it, clap three times

If you’re happy and you know it, clap three times
If you’re happy and you know it, and you really want to show it
If you’re happy and you know it, clap three times!

… jump three times …

… skip three times …
… hop three times …

In the Activity Book for this unit, your child will have the opportunity to copy and write countryside
words. He /she will also complete short sentences about where people are and complete
suggestions.
At home, encourage your child to point to pictures of things you can see in the country and tell you
their names in English. Your child can also tell you which materials to recycle and ‘perform’ the songs
for you.
I hope you and your child have enjoyed the course and have a very good summer holiday.
Yours
