In my opinion, selecting the what kind of routing protocol and media types depends on the project

you’re working with. For the reason each routing protocol has its own uniqueness, functionality,
properties and purpose that same goes of the media types.

For instance, I’m planning to create a small-sized network for the home purpose: file sharing, and device
sharing. That consist of 3 computers: Two (2) computers in my room and another one (1) in the living
room.

Questions:

Which routing protocol would you use?

In establishing this project, I recommend to implement Routing Information Protocol (RIP), since RIP
based on distance hop counts and it works only with small-sized network. Therefore, I think it is the
most suitable and efficient routing protocol for a small-sized network consist of a total of 3 computers.

What media type/cabling system would you choose?

In selecting what media type/cabling system, we have to consider the purpose, and efficiency of the
project. I would definitely recommend selecting Twisted Cable for this project for 2 reasons: First, since
we are working with a small-sized network which is a room-to-room distance Twisted Cable will work
smoothly, the distance will not interfere or affect the latency of the data being transported. And Twisted
Cable is cost way less than the other media types/cabling system which is a good choice for a small-
sized home purpose network.

Routing Information Protocol measure the distance based on how many hops data to reach its
destination but with maximum of 15 hops, while Open Shortest Path First calculate the shortest path,
and Border Based Protocol uses Best path selection algorithm to select best routes.
