This study examined organizational factors influencing the adoption of e-publishing

among book and journal publishers in Kenya. Research and the questionnaires have found that
very few publishers have fully adopted e-book or e-journal publishing technologies. Challenges
include high implementation cost, lack of electricity and inadequate awareness of the existence
and use of e resources.
The quotation that stood out to me is that “The answer to this confusion is the
recommendation by Hahn and Schoch (1997) that e-publishing can best be understood as a
cluster of related innovations combined.” This quote stood out because it is true and interesting
observation because for e-publishing to exist and work properly you would need many factors
at play such as rapid distribution, being up-to-date and instantaneous access etc. Rapid
distribution is that once the content is generated, it can be rapidly distributed and transferred
over the web. Being up to date is that once the content is generated, it can be rapidly
distributed and transferred over the web. Instantaneous access is electronic resources being
instantly accessed in no time as per reader’s convenience.
Something that personally caught my attention was the world is missing out on original
African content due to the African continent generates only 0.4 per cent of global online
content. For such a big land mass to produce so little is concerning, and this is mostly due to the
lack of access for e-publishing. There should be a bigger push for e-publishing in the African
continent because their digital footprint is a massive empty void in the world.
