Stem cells are cells that are not specialized for a particular function. Like other cells, stem
cells contain all of the genetic material found in the organism. Stem cells, if given the correct
signal,can become any type of specialized cell. There are two different types of stem cells.
Embryonic stem cells are found in embryos, while adult stem cells are found in small
quantities in mature tissues. The process of conducting research using stem cells, especially
using embryonic stem cells, is controversial because of ethical concerns. Using the
information in the paragraph above, answer the following question in essay format.
