Suggested Lesson Plan Guidelines for Student Teaching

Lesson Topic: Indian Civilizations Grade level: 7 Length of lesson: 1 hour

Desired Results
State Content Standard(s):
 7.1.1: Identify and explain the conditions that led to the rise of early river valley civilizations and evaluate how the
achievements in art, architecture, written language, and religion of those civilizations are related to their
respective forms of government and social hierarchies.

Central Focus: Essential Question(s):
Students will understand:  What did the Indus River valley civilizations
The characteristics of various Indian civilizations, how accomplish?
they came to be, and their achievements.  What other major civilizations emerged in India?
What did they accomplish?

Student objectives (outcomes):


Students will be able to:
Explain the accomplishments of the Indus River valley civilization as well as other Indian civilizations which came after it.

Performance Task(s): Other Evidence:
The students will complete a quick activity that asks
them to use Sanskrit with English translations to
form a sentence. Students will then swap sentences
with a partner and translate each other’s sentences.

Learning Plan
Learning Activities:
 A lecture about various Indian civilizations will be presented and students will take notes.
 Students will use a guide on the board to translate English words into Sanskrit and translate each
other’s sentences
