Concept Notes

Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place online, or using electronic technology such
as cell phones, computers, and tablets over communication tools including social
media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.

Examples of Cyber Bullying

∑ Text messages or emails composed to insult or demean;
∑ Rumors or false statements spread by email or posted on social networking
sites;
∑ Humiliating photos, videos, websites, or fake profiles deliberately shared across
social media.

Anyone can commit cyberbullying but mostly teenagers are the one who are known in
this cases. According to Sam Laird published article on Mashable Life, 42% of
teenagers with technology access report being cyberbullied over the past year, 69% of
teen owns their computer or smart phone and 80% are active on social media. A simple
message, a simple status or calling of names can trigger up a million emotions that
can lead to stress then depression and then death.

To Prevent cyberbullying, we must:

∑ Think positive,
∑ Talked to a trusted person or an elder about your case,
∑ Save some evidence that you were being cyberbullied,
∑ Think before you post,
∑ Set privacy controls in your account/s,
∑ Log out your account on public computer like internet café (Protect your
account),
∑ Be a friend not a bystander (Take some action),
∑ Don’t requite.

General Directions: Read carefully the instructions given.
