“My experience/s while collecting data of a client using an interview”

My experience regarding collecting data was rather short. It wasn’t so much as finding
my client that was so hectic but a way to put this into my schedule. To be honest we have a lot of
things to do as a first year. I hope i get used to it soon so that I can further hone my skills and
discipline as a nursing student. Being in nursing was rather rough when I first took it as an
irregular student. There are many expectations put into this course and those who take it and I
found it hard for me to find my place but I did. During this pandemic, there are countless hurdles
we have to push through while doing this online class. Not only do we have to take care of
ourselves more and learn to prioritize our responsibilities and our needs, we also have to be able
to adapt in uncommon scenarios we haven’t faced before. This brand new normal we partake in
shouldn’t be called a walk in the park. Although, ironically we don’t have to stand up to do our
work or join these sessions be it asynchronous or synchronous.
Our motivation and drive to finish what we’ve started has been diminished by our lack of
purpose and the nuances that come about our daily routines. Those who take online classes are
being judged by those of the older generations as we seem tired and exhausted even though we
do not lift our weights. Unbeknownst to them that we are actually toiling away through our
screens, getting a migraine from all the information we have to curate to get an accurate
representation of the ideas that we are hoping to get an answer to. I just realized that we are no
longer in the age of information. As we are in a time where information is getting clouded from
how highly accessible it is. We no longer need a news outlet to know the latest buzz or whatever
noise we used to not get distracted from. Now, we often find ourselves filtering the noise in the
background to get what we truly deserve. Too much information leads to people getting ahead of
themselves and more times than not, these assumptions are exacerbating a problem that wasn’t
there. Our job as a student nurse, when collecting data is finding information that is not a
presupposition to what a patient knows but what a patient can evaluate for themselves what is
happening by being inquired upon through history taking.

Good thing, the client I interviewed was someone I knew close. That way we are in an
agreement to find the truth of the matter. Not like what happens in real life, where we tend to
neglect ourselves and hide from the truth of our situations, ruining the nursing process. I hope to
gain more experience and knowledge as I continue my education. Hopefully, it is not outdated
information that is not applicable to what nursing is today. That way, we will be ready when we
enter the field of practice.
