1. Draw and label volume oriented IS and flow-oriented IS.
2. Answer the following:
a. Differentiate volume oriented from flow-oriented IS. - Earlier studies that have compared flow and volume-oriented Incentive spirometry suggest that physiologically there is a difference in the effect of these two devices. Flow- oriented devices (Triflo device) impose more work of breathing, and increase muscular activity of the upper chest. Volume- oriented devices (Coach 2 device) impose less work of breathing and improve diaphragmatic activity
b. Write the procedure on how to perform incentive spirometry
- Sit up and hold the device. - Place the mouthpiece spirometer in your mouth. Make sure you make a good seal over the mouthpiece with your lips. - Breathe out (exhale) normally. - Breathe in (inhale) SLOWLY.
