1.Who is Genji?

- Genji, the hero of the Tale, is the son of the emperor.

2.Why Genji Monogatri is considered as court romance?

- Because Genji Monogatari (early eleventh century) by Murasaki Shikibu is


considered the preminent masterpiece of Heian fiction and an early example of a
work of fiction in the form of a novel. Other important works of this period include
the Kokin Wakashu (905), a waka-poetry anthology, and Makura no Soshi
(990s), the latter written by Murasaki Shikibu's contemporary and rival, Sei
Shonagon, as an essay about the life, loves, and pastimes of nobles in the
emperor’s court.

3.Give at least three memorable lines from the Genji Monogatari.

- The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu. Real things in the darkness seem no
realer than dreams. There are as many sorts of women as there are women. No
art or learning is to be pursued halfheartedly and any art worth learning will
certainly reward generously the effort made to study it.

4.What lesson did you learn from Genji Monogatari?

- The lesson i learn from Genji is the story is that love isn't about the desire of
having sex for many women or about the struggle to conquer all pretty women.
But love must be kept with a woman we love forever.
