In Stoic philosophy, they are the most important values. "If you should come across anything finer than
justice, truth, self-control, courage at some point in your life," Marcus Aurelius wrote over two centuries
ago, "it must be an astonishing thing indeed." Since then, we've discovered a lot of things—automobiles,
the Internet, cures for diseases that were once fatal—but have we discovered anything better?

...than restraint and sobriety

...than doing the right thing

...than truth and comprehension?
