1. The pipes in the system shown in the figure 1 are all cast iron with f = 0.018. The flow in the line
2 is 110 liters per second. Determine the following:

A. The discharge in the 0.40 m pipe is nearest to:


B. The total head lost from A to D is nearest to:
C. Determine the diameter of an equivalent single pipe (f = 0.010) from B to C (800 m long such
that it replaces pipes 2, 3, and 4 without altering the capacity for the same head loss from A to
D.

2. The head lost in each pipe in the figure 2 is given by HL = kQ2, where Q is the discharge in m3/s
and HL is in meters. The value of k of each pipe are as follows:

k1 = 4.5 k2 = 23.9 k3= 2.3


k4 = 3.1 k5 = 33.7 k6 = 6.1

If the total head lost in the system is 56 m, determine the following:

a. The flow in line 2.


b. The flow in line 4.
c. The head lost in line 3.
d. The head lost in line 6.
e. The total flow in the system in m3/s.
