Module 2 - Activity 8 - Summative Assessment
Now that you know what metacognition is, discuss how the three elements of the educative process presented in Module 1, are relevant to learner’s metacognition.
Benefit of Metacognition to the Learner (10 points)
Evidence reveals that metacognition increases students' learning (sometimes referred to
as self-regulation) because students are more in control of their own learning. Students who study metacognitive techniques are more aware of their own thoughts and are likely to be more profoundly learning engaged learners. There are benefits of self-regulation or self reflection to a learner, this includes how it changes the mentality of fixed and development regarding the capacity of students to understand; there is also iIncreased responsibility of learning by students and taking care of their own learning; and students will be more optimistic towards their schooling.
Benefit of Metacognition to the Teacher (10 points)
Teachers according to the elements of the educational process are expected to be role models and will teach more than they are expected for. A good teacher must be highly cognitive. This is to make sure that they will always reflect on their expertise, determine their strengths and weaknesses for them to overcome and/or improve. That way, teachers would be able to fulfill their mission in teaching.
Benefit of Metacognition to the Learning Environment (10 points)
One's environment possesses a great impact on the learner especially if an environment
is full of chaos, surely, one could not expect a child to grow or learn in a nice manner. That is why metacognition or an act of assessing/reflecting how the environment affects not only the learner but also the teacher would help the administration (might it be in school) or the government itself to determine the things that need to be changed in order to improve the environment of a learner. I also believe that it is the duty of the government to provide everyone the quality education they deserve, and the perfect or peaceful environment is part of the standard to be called a “quality education”.
