Finals Activity #1

1. In your own opinion, what are the problems we normally encounter when we are delegated
working abroad?

Well, since I experienced talking to someone who was working abroad which is my tita Jessica, I became
exposed with different emotions and stories she is telling to us. And because of that, I think the first
problem that we will encounter when we are working abroad is homesickness. We tend to miss our love
ones in the Philippines and there's nothing we can do because it is our responsibility to become strong
and motivated despiting the situation we have. Second, we may be shock with the different culture that
a specific country has. It could be a hard for us to understand and actualize their culture since it is really
different to what we used to do when we are growing up. Third is the uncertainty of having good
employers. We cannot hide the truth that there are a lot of OFWs who are being abused by their
employers. It is very hard to assure the safety of ourselves when we are going to work abroad, in a
simple mistake, sometimes it can lead to an onerous punishment. Fourth I think is the desire of going
back to the Philippines in times that one of your family members became sick or went in a bad
condition. I think this is one lf the most difficult part of being an OFW. Lastly, are the adjustments that
you are going to do especially when it comes to food and climate. We are under a tropical area here in
the Philippines meaning we only have two seasons which are summer and rainy season. On the other
hand, other countries have four (4) seasons which will probably bring hardships to us on the first days or
months. Those being discussed are on some of the problems. I believe that working abroad, away from
your family, missing birthdays and other important occasions are also part of this problem so it is better
that we should always talk to them and make them realize that even it is far away from each other, we
are still family and he/she is not alone.
