INRODUCTION
I carried out activities in the dairy farm like milking and feeding the calves. I always participated well
during the field work as it constituted to my learning on how to milk and feed the calves without
supervision.
---assembling the milking equipment such as the milking stool, milking cans, milking jelly, milking
buckets and warm water.
---milking
---Cleaning the sheds where the cows slept pouring water to prevent dust
---washing the milking equipment to ensure they look tidy and neat
MAIN ACTIVITIES
I carried out milking and feeding of the calves in the dairy farm. This constituted all my duties of the day
which I went to gain experience. I worked hard towards the task as it marked how experienced I could
be after the attachment.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
During the field study I learnt the milking procedure where I found it was necessary for one to wash the
udder with clean warm water to remove any dirt from the milk.
I also learnt that milking jelly is always advisable to be applied on the teats to prevent the teats from
cracking and causing some wounds. For my case I used the Armis milking jelly because of its smooth
touch.
I noted that the cow takes 5-7 minutes and fails to give out milk .instead I used to give it a small amount
of dairy mash to make a the cow cool.
i came across a cow which had difficulties during the milking and l used rope to tie it so that l could do
the milking properly.
I hereby thank the administration of Lukenya University for giving me the opportunity to have
attachment. I also pass my gratitude to my supervisor, Mr. Bakari for his willing heart during the study.
I would recommend for an expansion of the farm for it to accommodate more animals for the same
study
