“Welcome to the future!

” saidving, the teacher as she removed the sheet with a

flourish revealing what had been hidden beneath.
An entire city with a population of twenty-seven million was now before him.
“Let’s take a look round,” he said, waving his hands at the city he would be
living in, as he could only see the front of the buildings. “Where’s the hospital?”
he asked.
“Straight down that street, the next building,” said the teacher, pointing across
the square.
“You seem well-informed,” he said, a little confused.
“Yes,” said the teacher. “I was told at birth that I would become a great teacher,
and that I was destined to guide the people of the city. And for that purpose,
the first year of my life I was trained in a special university where I was taught
to guide others, and to help them along their path in life.”
“That’s very special,” said ving.
“Yes,” said the teacher. “It’s why I have a strong sense of right and wrong. I
know what’s right, what’s wrong, what is evil and what is good. That is the
knowledge I have gained from being here.”
“You must be very smart,” he said, looking at her with admiration.
The teacher smiled at him. “I was in training to be a school teacher, but after
ten years of training, I decided to stay here.”
“Why did you stop?”
“Because I decided that I would become a great teacher.”
“Where are your pupils? Aren’t they ready to come here?”
“All their children are here,” she said, “all from the best families. I know they
are ready. We will teach the most important things to our children. Things like
love, respect and truth.”
“How can you teach them such things?” asked ving.
“I have learnt from a school called Gudjara,” she said, “that every child is born
with a certain capacity to learn.”
“What about those children who have a disability, such as deafness?” asked
ving.
“They can learn to speak, to read and to write just as any child can. We will
teach them how to use special software, so they can communicate with others
in a more understandable way.”
“But the children who come here will probably be bored,” he said.
