Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can about the stuff above at this point…
This presentation is going to try to give you tips to
Steal time
Get some quick answers
Eliminate wrong choices
CALCULATOR SETTINGS
Things you can find by graphing:
Solutions (zeros, roots)
Maximums, Minimums, Critical Points
Points of intersection (possible solutions)
Use the TABLE
Zeros
Domain
Range
Points of Intersection
The number one piece of advice I can give you today is to solve problems graphically whenever
you are unsure of what to do.
6x=210
x=35
(X+3)(2X+4)

SOLVER
Anytime we use a feature on the
calculator we need the variable to be x.
SOLVER
Solve 𝟑𝒙𝟐 + 𝟐𝒙 − 𝟒 = 𝟎.
Let’s examine this one together as a class.
Notice how there are two possible answers.
When using the SOLVER, be sure to account for
all possible solutions.
This is especially true with quadratic equations.
TRY THE FOLLOWING ON YOUR OWN
USING THE SOLVER
BE SURE TO ACCOUNT FOR ALL
POSSIBILITIES WHEN USING THE SOLVER
LET’S EXAMINE THIS SAME PROBLEM
GRAPHICALLY
Another useful feature of the graphing calculator is the Polynomial Simulator.
It will do the following:
Find roots to a polynomial (zeros, solutions, etc.)
We can use this instead of graphing or using the SOLVER.
Thenice thing about the Polynomial Simulator is that it will also solve for
Imaginary Solutions.
Note: Graphs and the SOLVER will NOT find imaginary solutions.
Thisis actually the APP that I would use most often on the ACT, or in any math
class.
Solve simultaneous equations
2 equations in 2 variables; 3 equations in 3 variables; etc.
POLYNOMIAL SIMULATOR
LET’S DO THE SAME PROBLEM USING
THE POLYNOMIAL SIMULATOR
Use the Polynomial Simulator to solve
𝟐𝒙𝟐 − 𝟔𝒙 + 𝟖 = 𝟎.
Note: this problem will have imaginary
solutions.
Your GRAPH and TABLE will only give you
REAL solutions.
This
is why I prefer the Polynomial
Simulator.
Doing this problem by hand would require some lengthy arithmetic; let’s use
our APP.

C.(3,-1)
D. (5,4)
E. (9,8)
Let’s examine some geometry
USING GEOMETRIC FEATURES ON THE
CALCULATOR
Which of the following is a simplified form of 𝟐𝟎 − 𝟒𝟓?
A. − 𝟓
B. -5
C. 5
D. 𝟓 𝟓
E. 𝟔𝟓
Let’s examine this by comparing decimals.
Then let’s discuss ZOOMMATH500
Which is NOT allowed on the ACT
SIMPLIFYING RADICALS
Let
0<a<b<c<d be true for integers a,b,c, and d. Which of the following
expressions has the greatest value?
F. d/a
G. c/b
H. a/b
J. d/c
K. a/d
Let’s assume some values for a, b, c, and d. a=1, b=2, c=3, d=4
Now just check each possibility
REPLACING LETTERS WITH NUMBERS
𝟒𝒙
Supposethat x is a positive real number and is a rational
𝟔𝒙𝟐
number. Which of the following statements about x must be true?
F. x is rational
G. x is irrational
H. x=1
J. x= 2/3
K. x= 3/2
REPLACING LETTERS WITH NUMBERS
(CONTINUED)
Which of the following inequalities orders
