Slide 1 :

Hi, my name is Sean, currently in grade 12 in RE Mountain Secondary School. And today, I will
briefly explain what my capstone project will be and what I felt about the project so far.

Slide 2 :

When I looked through the booklet, there were many options: essay, project, occupation or
entrepreneur, and service strands. However, even though there were many options, there were
not many things that I was interested in.

Slide 3:

I thought of making bracelets with the entrepreneur strand, but I had difficulties with getting a
mentor, and it was not in my field of interest, so I decided to make a game! It was easy to find a
mentor, and it was my interest.

Slide 4:

It all started with what kind of game I wanted to make. I have played many types of games like
Battleground, Valorant, Minecraft, Sims, League of Legends, and thousands more. Due to those
experiences, know-how each game work like.

Slide 6:

And finally, I decided to make a Life Simulator game! Life simulator games is a game where the
player lives or controls one or more virtual characters. It is usually a first or third-person view
and detailed stories to make the player immersed into emotions is an important task.

Slide 7:

Some of the famous examples of life simulator games are The Sims, Animal Crossing, and
Stardew Valley. Like it shows in the examples, giving various options and consequences with
those options is something that is important about the life simulator

Slide 5:

I started with learning what my game have to look like. Because my inquiry question is about
what makes people addicted to video games, I decided to make a video game that teaches
players what and how video game addiction works like.
Slide 8:

Next, I thought of what my game’s background is going to be. When I was considering different
options, I remembered that I want to visit Japan one day, so I chose Japan. Because it is
happening in Japan, I named my character Akatsuki.

Slide 9:

Akatsuki is a brown-haired, bright and clever Japanese girl who was not addicted to games.
During the summer break, she had her first experience on video games with her friends. Her
first game was incredible. Even though this was her first game, she played a pro gamer.

Slide 10:

After that day, when she tried to study, she can not stop thinking about video games. She was
addicted to games. This continued for almost 3 months and her grades went from above
average to lowest. The game starts from where she meets the counsellor.

Slide 11:

The key message of this game is to alert players to video game addictions and it has various
consequences that are way worse than they think which also relates to my inquiry question,
“What makes people addicted to video games?”

Slide 12:

It was all well-planned until it came to making the storyline of the game. There were not many
options for me to make with this inquiry question. But like I said before, life simulator games are
all about various decisions that players make. So I decided to start all over again.

Slide 13:

Because my dream job is a game developer for FPS games, I thought, why don’t I make an
FPS game? There were a lot of difficulties though. I did not have any time, material, basic
knowledge, and even helps from other people with this project.

Slide 14:

And suddenly… I thought… Why don’t I make my inquiry question as “What are the difficulties
that developers have?” It was brilliant. It really wasn’t, but at least I have something to start with.
From there, I started brainstorming

Slide 15:
First of all, the most important difficulty to me, the basic knowledge, had to be resolved, so I
researched what I had to know before beginning to actually brainstorm. And, I found that Unity
game engine is mostly what beginners use.

Slide 16:

After, I found a really helpful channel on Youtube on a tutorial on how to make a video game
with Unity. The channel is called Freecodecamp.org and it has a 27hours long video tutorial on
how to make an FPS game in Unity.

Slide 17:

Important characteristics that I have to consider are what era it’s going to be, who is going to be
the character, what kind of fps game is it going to be, is it going to be an open world where
players can go around anywhere or game with quests where there is a certain storyline for it
and what is going to be a story if so.

Slide 18:

I chose that the game is going to be an open-world game with a futuristic background. It will be
taking place in an abandoned city of 2067 and there will be an unknown virus around the city
making people aggressive making people kill each other.

Slide 19:

The main character has an immune system to this virus and he will be surviving in this city
looking for the materials to make a cure for this virus in order to save the world. Throughout this
journey, he will be making friendly, enemy and loving ones which will make the game intense but
romantic at the same time.

Slide 20:

So far, what I have learned in this project is that I feel attracted and full of courage to what I
chose to do and I realized why Ms.Locroix said to do something that we are interested in. Thank
you.
