From the root ‫س ب ل‬‎(s-b-l). Given the frequent religious usage of the word, there is some
semantic interference of the Classical Syriac ‫ܫܒܝܠܐ‬‎(šəbīlā). Cognate to Aramaic ‫ְׁש ִב יׇלא‬‎
(šəḇīlā), Hebrew ‫ְׁש ִב יל‬‎(šəḇī́l).
