Chapter 1THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUNDIntroductionPhilippines is still primarily an

agricultural country it indicates as beingrich in agricultural crops but there are lots of factors
affecting the productionof quality foods and one of these is the problem in pest insects.
Insects havedirect impact on agricultural production by chewing the leaves of crop
plants, destroying the roots, stems or leaves and spreading plant pathogen. They are also
responsible for inflicting bites and stings, and transmitting disease inlivestock (Meyer 2017). In
agricultural field the caterpillars and aphids are theleading destroyer of plant crops especially
vegetables. Not to forget the fact that pest is a deadly hunter. Most of the farmersuse
chemical substances (pesticides, insecticides, etc.) to eliminate the pestand produce high-
graded products. Unfortunately, they can harm more thanjust the pest at which they
are targeted. As to Pesti cide Acti on Network ( 2 0 1 7 ) , p e s ti c i d e s a r e t o x i c a n d
