The table gives information about four indicators representing social and economic aspects of four

countries (Canada, Japan, Peru and Zaire) in 1994.

Overall, people in Canada and Japan had better quality of life in 1994 than those in Peru and Zaire.

In terms of annual income per person, the Japanese earned the most with $15,760, followed by the
Canadians with $11,000. These figures were much higher than Peru’s and Zaire’s annual income, which
were $160 and $130 respectively. This difference between developed and developing countries was
observed again in life expectancy at birth. While Canadians and Japanese were expected to live up to
about 77 years old, people in Peru and Zaire were estimated to live only for approximately 50 years.

Regarding food supply per person, Canada had the highest figure with 3326 daily calories, almost double
that of Zaire, whose residents receive only 1748 per day each. As for education, Canada and Japan
continued to dominate with 99% of the population being literate. Meanwhile, Peru had an adult literacy
rate of 68% and Zaire came in last with a significantly lower number of 34%.

Zire residents received the least amount of calorie supply per day, only 1748 per person.
