The bar chart illustrates the proportion of men and women

teaching in six different types of educational places in the UK


in 2010.
Overall, there was a large gap between the percentages of
male and female teachers in pre-schools, primary schools and
universities. Meanwhile, the gap was significantly smaller in
other educational settings.
In the year 2010, over 90% of teachers in both nursery and
primary school settings were women, while the male teachers
made up less than 10%. In contrast, at the educational level of
university, males accounted for about 70% whereas only
roughly 30% of professors were females.
In the other educational settings, the percentages of men and
women were very similar. While women outnumbered men
by about 5% in secondary schools, the situation was reserved
when considering private training institutes, where there was
about 5% more male than female instructors. In the college
setting, each gender accounted for half of the teacher
population.
