The line graph shows and predicts the number of

births and deaths in New Zealand from 1901 to 2101.

Overall, both the birth and death rates will
experience an increase during the given period, with
the death rates being predicted to exceed the birth
rates in the near future.
In the year 1901, the birth rate of New Zealand was
20,000 people. This figure significantly increased in
the next 60 years, reaching a high of about 65,000
babies by 1961 before fluctuating sharply in the next
few decades. By 2001, it was recorded to be
approximately 55,000 births and was estimated to be
on a steady decline to about 42,000 births by 2101.
On the other hand, in terms of death rate, the
recorded data showed it had a gradual increase from
1901 to 2001, with about 9,000 and 28,000 deaths
respectively. However, it is speculated that the
number of deaths will experience a more rapid
increase after that, exceeding the number of births in
2041. In the year 2061, it will reach a new high of
59,000 deaths and maintain around this figure before
tapering off at the end of the period.
