The table gives information about the percentage of market
shares of different laptop manufacturing companies around
the world in 2006 and 2007. Overall, the majority of market shares belong to 3 companies (HP, Dell and Acer) in both years, while other less famous brands accounted for the rest of the shares. Among the manufacturers, HP was the leading company with the highest percentage of market share in both 2006 and 2007 (31.4% and 34% respectively). As the second highest share holder of the laptop market in 2006, Dell experienced a rise of 3.6% from 16.6% to 20.2%. In contrast, Acer had a drop in its share of the market, falling from 11.6% to 10.7%. Toshiba and Lenovo had about 6% of market share each in the year 2006. While Toshiba’s percentage rose to 7.3% in 2007, that of Lenovo decreased to 6.2%. It is noticeable that Fujitsu- Siemens was the only company which suffered a dramatic drop, losing more than half of its market share during the observed period (from 4.8% to 2.3% in 2007). There was also a slight decline (from 22.8% to 19.3%) in the combined percentage of share of other unspecified laptop producers.
