Pahiyas Festival

Pahiyas Festival is a colorful festival celebrated every 15 th day of May held to give thanks for the
bountiful harvest. The place of origin of this festival is in Lucban in the province of Quezon. The people
in this area believes that you should give thanks to the patron of farmers, Saint Isidro. They are
celebrating this festival by displaying and decorating their harvest in their houses. One of the example
that was shown from the video is the colorful kipings. Kiping is a leaf-shaped wafer made from glutinous
rice. They usually use kipings to decorate their houses to celebrate the Pahiyas Festival.
Sinulog Festival

Sinulog Festival is also called as Santo Nino Festival. This festival is held during the 16 th day of
January. This is a very well-known festival in Cebu. It is stated that this festival is said to be the
first of the most known festivals in the country Philippines. According to guide to the Philippines, this
festival attracts between 1 to 2 million visitors from all over the country every year and gives
travelers the opportunity to join Cebu tours and explore the many attractions of the province.

Ati-Atihan Festival

Like Sinulog Festival, Ati-atihan Festival is a feast for Santo Nino. Ati-atihan Festival is also held during
the month of January but not the same day as Sinulog Festival. Its origin is in Kalibo, Aklan. This
festival’s meaning is “to be like atis or aetas”. That is why, you can see from the picture above that their
costumes in parade is like how the aetas look. They shount their chant “Hala bira!” while dancing the Ati-
atihan dance. When you attend this festival, you will witness the different ways of the people here on
celebrating the feast of honoring the child Jesus, Santo Nino.
