Aim: equip the trainee with in-depth understanding of internet and internet applications

Specific Objectives

By the end of this Unit, the trainee should be able to:

1. Describe basics for the development of Internet applications and Internet

programming.

2. Explain principles of sites design and design technology,

3. Develop basic programming sites of various software tools.

4. Develop Web-applications using design technology and Internet programming

5. Describe Internet programming in the development of Web-applications.

Unit Content

The Internet: history and technology, access providers, joining the Internet; Internet

browsers, basic applications e.g. e-mail, USENET news; finding and accessing information

from the World Wide Web; Internet technology; domains, naming, addressing and routing.

Major Web components; URLs, Hypertext, hypermedia. The WWW data model; MIME

types. Web browser functions and options. Configuring and personalizing the Web

browser. Overview of HTML, Web Servers, Web Browsers. Introduction to HTML: Tags,

Formatting links, Lists and Tables.

UNIT TITLE: GRAPHICS DESIGN

UNIT CODE: ICT 123

CREDIT HOUR/FACTOR: L/P 15/30HRS CF 2.0 Y1S1

Aim: To equip the trainees with knowledge and skills in publishing and importance of

publishing

Specific Objectives

By the end of this Unit, the trainee should be able to:

1. create a new document and open an existing one,

2. Manipulate documents

3. Work with color, create basic shapes, and make basic photo corrections.

4. Explore the relationship of color, composition and typography.

5. Design a catchy publication.

6. Make use of advanced layer techniques, to create special effects, and prepare

images for printing,

7. use advanced publishing packages (software)

Unit Content

Introduction: Overview; definition, packages, products, publishing and Information

Technology, origination, authoring, manuscript assessment, editing, design, production,

marketing. Communication Process: source, channels, target. Design and layout: page setup, columns,
margins. Tools; customization, control. Text: typing, importing, editing;

formatting, spelling, find, replace, grammar check page numbering, section breaks.

Graphics: drawing, text wrap, importing, cropping. Master features: templates; design,

acquire. Image: scanning, resolution, acquiring, exporting, combining with text.

Production: preview; Print set-up, resolution, printing. Software: coreldraw, photoshop,

illustrator

UNIT TITLE: WEB DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT I

Aim: To equip the trainees with knowledge and skills of various web development

techniques

Specific Objectives

By the end of this Unit, the trainee should be able to:

1. Create web pages using industry standard web development software;

2. Apply syntax rules of HTML and CSS

3. Insert images and videos into a web page using industry standard web

development software

4. Create web pages with tables, forms, styles and style

5. Create sheets (CSS) using industry standard web development software;

6. Create a fully developed website;

7. Create interactive web forms using industry standard web development software

Unit Content

Getting started –Creating a simple HTML Document, Introduction to HTML5, and

Introduction to CSS. Creating headlines, typeface/style, and paragraph taps. Creating

documents with URL. Creating basic web pages; Hypertext Mark-up Language. Limitation

and features of HTML versions, basic form of an HTML document, formatting text,

creating ordered and unordered lists, establishing hypertext links with anchors.

Introduction: Using anchors and links. Creating LISD, creating pre-formatted text and

tables, adding images to your document, creating an advanced HTML document, creating

clickable image maps. Manipulating images; embedding images with the IMG element.

Creating active hyper-images, aligning and sizing images. GIF extensions; transparent

backgrounds and interleaving. Enhancing pages with browser-specific extensions; HTML,

Netscape and Microsoft extensions, tapping the power of tables, setting the background

textures and colors. Adjusting font rules and image attributes. Organizing information in

frames, creating client-side image maps. Adding excitement with dynamic images and
background images and background sound,
