Document Development Exposition: Instructions and Usability Test Script

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
My initial planning was simple. I wanted to describe something I was familiar with and would
genuinely want to teach other people. That is why I went with banana pancakes. It also helps that
the actual process for making banana pancakes is simple. I had a good personal story for the intro
and knowledge of how to make it which helped a lot during the creation of this document.

First Draft (for peer editing)

This first draft I decided to keep fairly simple. I wanted it to be as clear and straight to the point.
After the initial personal background/why someone would want banana pancakes introduction, I
went right into the process of making the bananas. I think this approach was a good one, though it
did leave some things to be desired.

Second Draft (for your packet)

The primary criticism I had from my peers were that the document could use some more images, so I
added some additional images without bogging down the document too much. I think their input
made it much better overall.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

The primary change that I made for this final version was adding a color box around the introduction
to give it more visual flair and make it “pop”. Also, I changed “How to Prepare” to “How to Make”,
since it went over the whole process and not just preparation. Finally, I punctuated each step and
changed the list to a numbered list since there was a set order.
