Document Development Exposition: Instructions and Usability Test Script

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
When I was creating the prep assignment for the Instructions packet, I struggled discerning the
different audiences. I used the resources provided to me to understand the differences between the
primary, secondary, initial audiences, and the gatekeeper and watchdog.

First Draft (for peer editing)

While I was writing my first draft, I struggled determining exactly what I wanted to talk about in my
instructions. For the planning document, I chose a topic that was a little too broad and I didn’t realize
it until I created my first draft. I settled on breaking the Pal session into three different sections and
offered different activities for each section.

Second Draft (for your packet)

For my second draft, I really needed to improve the visual appeal of my document. This was based on
some of the feedback I received from peers. My first draft was one font throughout and had no
variation in color or size. I referred to the power points that were provided and changed the fonts on
my document following the sans-serif and serif font structure for online documents.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

Looking back at all my documents, I see that my first two drafts were more of a guide rather than a
set of instructions. In order to fix this, I chose one activity for each section of the session and created
a bulleted list of instructions. This made my document much more concise and less daunting. I also
added color to some of the headings and a border to make it more visually appealing.
