Activity 2. Balancing Ideas

Holistic perspective requires an individual to be open minded and an ability to get the general
sense or impression regarding a situation. It also describes different kinds of interactions, and
important aspects of how an individual become aware and conscious to reality.

Partial point of view is characterized of how an individual interpret the fact or the situation. It
also requires analytical thinking and focus on the main problem in order to understand it.

Activity 3. Poem Analysis

1. Is the poem hard to understand? Why and why not?

Yes. Because there are words and phrases that I don’t completely understand, so it’s
hard to interpret the whole poem.

2. Who among the blind men gave the right description about the elephant?
None. Besides from being a blind person, each of them examines different parts of the
animal in which they all have different perspectives. Since they cannot see, they
described the elephant according to their imagination only and how their mind portrays
what they are touching.
3. In the context of the story about the Blind Men and the Elephant, what do you think is
holistic perspective?
Like what the parable teaches, the holistic perspective here states that each of the blind
men has their own perspective according to what they observed. Their mindset focuses
only on the parts that they’re actually touching and believing on the one side of their
opinions are the truth, that’s why they keep arguing to each other. Since they cannot
see, they did not aware that they’re describing the elephant as a whole.

What is partial point of view?

Out of curiosity of the blind men of what the elephant may look alike, they tend to
examine each part of it. since they have different parts to examine, they end up arguing
to each other because of the conflicts in what they need to believe based on their own
perspectives.

4. What is the importance of holistic perspective as pointed out by the author of the
poem?
If they applied the holistic perspective where they all examines different parts of the
elephant and not depending only on one side, they might have ended up at a similar
thought.

transportation and time for travel.

What is your basis of categorizing the statements as truth or opinion?

For me, the statement is true if it can be proven through actions and have sources that are
based on facts. And I categorize statement as an opinion when it is based on expressions or
person’s feelings which cannot be proven, it is also based on emotions that sometimes can lead
to being biased on one’s side argument.

Activity 5. Reflection Time

How will knowing the truth help us become wiser and more discerning individual?
Truths are based from facts and things that are real and proven. I can say that if you become
wiser and more discerning, then you supposed to know the truth. You are wise and a discerning
person because you can be able to determine the difference between truth and falsity.
Knowing the truth help us to have a decent argument and give proper judgment to others.
Being a wise and discerning individual, we should know to give some accurate information to
others and explain it to then in a proper way. Being wise and more discerning individual doesn’t
mean that we should always agree on some points or opinions of others. Every single person
has their right to give some of their opinions, but not all of it are precise and accurate. We
should learn how to disagree, especially when we already knew the truth behind the argument.
We should not deceive ourselves to agree with some erroneous ideas if the content or details
are not precisely explained. Thus, having wide intelligence can help others to understand more
about the truth and reality of something. As they said, truth can be a solution but it can be a
devastating bomb in someone’s head, so we should always think wisely and allow them to
understand the accurate details you are giving to them.

Activity 4. My Limitations and Transcendence

My limitation as a human person is/are not at all times I can be fully determined and can be
motivated throughout all the challenges in my life, sometimes I just want to give up and let go
of the things easily. Not all the time I can be productive all day. Some day might not the best
time to work and to do some stuffs that can help me to learn and grow. There are some certain
situations that my level of knowledge doesn’t meet a certain problem. That my learnings and
knowledge aren’t enough to accomplish something.
Despite my limitations, I want to continue pursuing and achieving my goals in life. Even though
life seems hard, even there are many circumstances to face I know that in the end it is all worth
it. I want my family to be proud of me, of what I become, and for what I have achieved in life.
I can achieve this by sacrificing all my time and doing my best. Working hard until I get what I
wish to become. By not giving up until I can be a successful person someday. And also, by
believing to myself that I will overcome all the challenges that may come.
I want to do the following. I want to fulfill all my dreams in life. I want to pay offs all the hard
works and sacrifices of my parents. I want to have a genuine happiness in my life. I want to
make a family when I am financially stable in life.
I can make this happen by focusing on my main goal and willing to sacrifice all I have. By
motivating myself to seek more knowledge that I will use in order to success. Leaving all the
negative thoughts that can destroy my dreams and goals. And trusting and believing of what I
am capable to do.

Environmental Problems Philosophical Views

Climate change Climate change is an environmental issue
where changes of conditions occur, such as
temperature, rainfall and drought over a long
period of time. Like having unusual weather
on the earth that we didn’t even expected to
happen. We might experience a sudden
increasing of temperature that resulting ice
glaciers to melt faster. This unexpected
weather conditions will make it difficult to
sustain and grow crops in regions that
depend on farming, since the predicted
temperature and rainfall levels can no longer
be counted on.
Pollution Pollutions is a process that making our
environment dirty and polluted that can
harm and destroy our health. This can be
cause by contaminating our environment or
surroundings. Land can be polluted by
throwing trash and dirt in their proper
containers. Air can be polluted by using to
much fire that can cause smoke and make
our breathable air toxic and harmful for us.
Water can also be polluted by harming
different kinds water forms using chemicals
that can also harm the fisher and some
animals that lives under the water.
Deforestation Deforestation is process of cutting tress or
clearing a part of a forest or mountain or
other wooded area. Though it can harm our
environment and also the animals, people
still tend to cut tress for their subsistence
and daily income. deforestation has a huge
effect on our environment especially when a
disaster strikes the earth. It can cause soil
erosion, flood, and also in increasing of
temperature.
Environmental degradation This kind of environmental problem usually
generated by human activities. It is a process
of destroying our resources on earth like air,
water, and soil. A behavior done by people
that causes our planet to be degraded or
damaged in any way. some factor why
people do environmental degradation based
on economic growth, for urbanization, for
population, for increasing in transportations
and other factors that the society can
benefit. And the main cause of the
environmental degradation is human
disturbance.
Population growth Population growth is an increasing of number
of individuals in an area. And overpopulation
is the major problem here in our country.
That can cause a food shortage, lack of
resources, lack of drinking water or energy
shortages and many more. Most of the
countries that living in a rapid population
have low living standards that resulting to a
poverty.
Activity 3. THINK. ANALYZE. DISCUSS.
1. A mining corporation decided to save costs and did not construct an effective storing
facility for mining waste. The improperly stored waste leaked and polluted the nearby
river, poisoned marine life, and caused people in the nearby village to get sick.
The mining corporation should’ve exerts much concerns on the wastes that their factory
produces rather than the money. People behind and surrounded by them may suffer and other
living species can harm from the leaked waste of their company. I think they should’ve take an
effort to take care of their environment rather than harming and destroying it because they are
blinded by the money.
2. A businessman bought a large piece of farmland and decided to convert it into a
subdivision. During construction, hundreds of trees were uprooted and streams were
covered in cement.
Instead of covering it in cement, why not building a subdivision without harming and destroying
our ecosystem. Streams can be useful too in a backyard, you can make it as an attractive spot
for your clients who want to inquire in your subdivision and I think it will benefit for the view of
the houses and has a benefit to the people who will live there also. I think it will be better if
they didn’t cut all the trees, because trees make a fresh air and since your building a subdivision
where people live, it will also benefit for them having a good air to breathe.
3. A local official led a campaign to set aside several hectares of forested land in their city
as a watershed area. This area was declared off-limits to loggers and miners.
I think it was the best idea that he/she contributed. Watersheds are important for us and also
for our ecosystem. The watershed influences the consistency or the quality of the water body
that surrounds it. Good watersheds have greater benefits to the human and animals living
there. Also, watersheds supply our drinking water and since it also supplies water for crops and
plants, people will have a better quality of food resources if they will have a clean and not
destroyed watersheds.
4. An animal shelter partnered with the local government to conduct free vaccination
drives for pets. The shelter also coordinates with local police to address cases involving
animal cruelty.
Protect all kinds of animal species at all costs. The government really do the right thing for the
animals. Animals should be taken care of and should not be harmed and destroyed. Animals
also have the rights to be treated good with the people surrounded by them. They cause no
harms for the humans and humans must treat them fair the way they treat for themselves.
People should not abuse animals because it is a horrific act of violence to commit.
