Aim: To understand the effect of symmetrical /unsymmetrical short circuits


on the power system.

Numerical Problem:
The reactance data for the power system shown in Figure 85 in per unit on a
common base is as follows:

Obtain the Thevenin sequence impedances for the fault at bus 1 and compute the ´
fault current in per unit for the following faults: (a) A bolted three-phase fault at bus 1.
(b) A bolted single line-to-ground fault at bus 1. The positive and zero sequence
reactances of the test system are given below by the reactance diagrams.
