Cherry Tree Lane is a nice London street. On one side there are
houses, on the other there is a park. The cherry trees go dancing
right in the middle. Number Seventeen is the smallest house in
the street. The Banks live in the house.

Mrs. Banks: I have a lot of housework to do, but our nurse left us
yesterday! I don’t know what to do!
Mr. Banks: Write to the newspaper and the nurses will come. I’m
sorry, but now I must go to work.
Michael: Daddy, could you give me some money to buy a kite.
Mr. Banks: Sorry Michael, but the bank is broken today.

He gave an air kiss to his wife and went away. Mrs. Banks sat at
the table and started to write letters to the newspapers.
Jane: Look! The trees are dancing!
Michael: That’s Daddy over there!
Jane: That’s not Daddy, it’s somebody else.
It was a woman with her hat on and a bag in her right hand. Mary
Poppins entered the room.
Mrs. Banks: They are very nice and quiet children.
Narrator: But she didn’t believe it.
Mrs. Banks: Well children, this is your new nurse, Mary Poppins.

Mary Poppins looked at them carefully. She gave a long loud sniff
and said: All right. I’ll stay.
Jane: How did you come? Did the wind blow you here?
Mary Poppins: It did. She gave another sniff and opened the her
bag.
Michael: What a funny bag!
Mary Poppins: Never charge things by their appearance, even the
carpetbags.

Mary Poppins took out a large bottle of medicine.

Michael: Is it your medicine?

Mary Poppins: No, it’s yours.
Michael: I don’t want it! I won’t!

He closed his eyes and opened his mouth.

Michael: Strawberry ice! More, more, more!

Mary Poppins came up to Jane.

Jane: Sweet lemon juice. I love it.

Mary Poppins: Well children, it’s high time to go to bed!

Mary Poppins opened her bag, took our pajamas and gave to
children. Jane and Michael were very surprised.

Michael: Mary Poppins, will you never leave us?

Mary Poppins: Till the wind changes.

Miss Larks lived in the biggest house in the Cherry Tree Lane.
Miss Larks: Andrew, where are you? Andrew, put on your coat!
Andrew, come to Mother! Where is my dear son?

Narrator: Do you think Andrew is a boy? No, he is a dog.

Andrew appears on the stage.

Michael: Hi Andrew! Where is your coat?

Miss Larks: Andrew, come home, my dear!
Andrew: Yap-yap!
Mary Poppins: Second house on the left.
Andrew: Yap?
Mary Poppins: No garden.
Andrew: Yap-yap-yap.
Mary Poppins: I’m not sure, he usually goes home at tea-time.

Andrew ran away.

Jane and Michael: What did he say?

Mary: Nothing special.
Michael: I think he asked you where somebody lived...
Mary: Well, why are you asking me then? I’m not a dictionary.
Jane: Oh, Michael. Mary Poppins, tell us what Andrew said to
you, please.

Andrew is coming together with a big brown dog.

Miss Lark: Oh, you are OK! But that terrible dog! Shoo! Shoo! Go
home!
Go away! Go home! And you, Andrew, come into the house. You
mustn’t go out without me and without your coat.

Andrew is barking.

Miss Lark: What’s the matter? Come in.

Andrew is barking.
Mary Poppins: He said, that he isn’t coming in.
Miss Lark looked at her in surprise: How do you know what my
dog says? Of course he will come in.

Andrew is barking again.

Mary: He won’t. He will go home only with his friend.

Lark: No! That terrible street dog will never come into my garden.
And He will go away...

Andrew barks 3 times.

Lark: Oh Andrew, you can’t.

Two dogs are going to leave.

Lark: Oh, he is going away! Very well, Andrew. This dog can stay.
But he will sleep in the garden.
Mary: He says, Madam, that his friend must sleep in the room. Or
he will go and sleep in the garden with his friend.

Andrew and brown dog got up and are ready to go.

Lark: Oh, Andrew. Very well, sleep in the room.

Andrew is barking: Come on!

and they go into the house.

Jane: He isn’t silly, you see.

Michael: No, he isn’t. But how can Mary Poppins...?
Jane: I don’t know. And she’ll never, never tell us.
