CLIMATE CHANGE IN PERU

Climate Change is already happening in Peru; glacier ice is melting. There have been more
floods caused by the El Niño phenomenon; there are also more droughts in the Sierra, as
well as huaicos in the Coast, the Sierra and the Jungle. Over the past two decades, Peru has
been seriously affected by the El Niño phenomenon and its impacts have been devastating.
In Junín, Huancavelica and Ayacucho, adaptation studies are needed; while, due to frost, in
Apurímac and Puno the people and their sources of livelihoods and development are being
seriously affected by climate change.
