Synthesis

In the review of related literature and studies, the studies of Fateme (2021), Salari

(2020), Tanoue (2020), and Brooks (2020) focused on the Psychological and Emotional

Challenges faced by informal caregivers in related to the studies the researcher want to know

the experiences faced by the family of COVID-19 patients. This pandemic and its

accompanying control measures increase the frequency of providing informal family care to

those who rely most strongly on personal care. This also leads to worsening mental health

for informal caregivers. On the other hand, Hanna (2021) and Bloomer (2021) stated, “Death

of a loved one is a painful experience. However, death due to COVID-19 is likely to be more

difficult for several reasons: the death is unanticipated, and families are separated from their

hospitalized loved ones due to potential contagion. Families may be unable to grieve and

memorialize their loss in ways that are religiously and culturally familiar. It is likely that

family and close friends will be distressed, confused, and have many questions. The studies

and literature above are similar a) to the respondents (families of COVID-19 patients,

informal caregivers), b) the leading factor that affects the member of the family of a COVID-

19 patient, c) effective coping mechanisms that helped the family to cope with their

condition.

The difference from the studies above, researchers focuses on the experiences of the

COVID-19 patients’ family. The researcher wants to know the factors affecting them during

this pandemic outbreak.

The uniqueness of our study from those mentioned above is the participants involved

and the researchers want to know the experiences and if there is a significant difference in

terms of a.) Physical and Physiological factors (Physiologic-Physical factors), b.)

Psychological and Emotional factors (Self-concept mode) and c.) Sociological factors (Role-

function and Interdependence Mode) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aside from that is the
participants’ information is from the families who take care of their loved ones who have/had

COVID-19 and residing in the South of Metro Manila, Philippines., namely—Makati, Pasay

Pateros Taguig, Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Muntinlupa City.
