Cover Letter

As a strategic communications student attending Butler University and a participant in

the promotional writing course. I have received many opportunities to test my creative and

critical thinking skills. Such opportunities presented themselves as the various in class

assignments assigned to me during my time taking the promotional writing course. These

assignments helped test my critical and creative thinking skills by getting in the mind of

someone in a work environment trying to reach their target audience best. I am proud to say

that over the course of the semester, I have learned a great deal from these assignments and

have helped make me a better strategic communications students. I highlighted the Internal

communications letter, the social media post assignment, the radio script advertisement and

the creative brief writing example due to their difficulty and requirement for creative thinking. I

am hoping to go into an advertisement agency so these assignments helped me best get into

the mindset of someone who wants to reach their target audience

After I had initially finished all the assignments, I utilized the incredibly insightful

feedback my Professor gave to me to help further improve the assignments that I have

highlighted in this portfolio. Not only did I use the information and incites given to me by my

professor, I also used the many resources that a Buter University student has access too,

namely the AP style book. Over the course of the semester I have learned that AP style is my

best friend. Not just in promotional writing, but in all my classes. It helps me create the best

piece of writing that I can, while giving important information and presenting a college level

understanding of the work. As I continue my career in Strategic communications, I hope to

better increase my writing skills using AP style, and hope to better master AP style in its

entirety, along with improving my critical and creative thinking skills to become the best

strategic communications student I can be.
