Document Development Exposition: White Paper

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning

I immediately knew what I was going to cover in my white paper. With my subject being about
swamps, the biggest concern to focus on would be the invasive species. The main challenge was
deciding how to write about the issue in terms of background information added.

First Draft (for peer editing)

I decided to plan around an earthy color tone for the entire document. The first page would be a
large introduction picture rather than just words. I wanted everything to be organized by color. The
main headers would be a dark blue with a larger font. The sub headers would be indented in from
the main headers with a green color. This way the information is connected while still flowing. The
main challenge was deciding what information should be placed under the subheader and what
information should be in the main section.

Second Draft (for your packet)

My second draft did not have many edits. I decided to focus on the wording of my paper and finding
any additional information or images. I added more specific information within the subheadings to
enhance the reasoning for that information being shown. I also cleaned the table of anything that
may have caused confusion to the reader. The challenge for the second draft was making sure
everything sounded clear and concise. I wanted to make sure each section was not running on and
got to the point.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

For my final draft, I made some major changes to the document. I deleted the image from the
abstract and added another paragraph of information summarizing my document. I stylized the
paragraphs into a block style by deleting the indents for each paragraph. I also added a line break in
between paragraphs for a clear look. The biggest challenge was to ensure I summarized the
document correctly in the abstract while not repeating the body paragraphs. I learned that a figure is
not always necessary and that a document should have a good amount of white space throughout.
