Sociology 1010 Reflection Paper:

Before I took this course I had taken Philosophy and Psychology. In those courses I basically

learned how people, do people. I applied what I knew to Sociology and how I can use

sociological perspectives to look at the world around me. The knowledge from all classes has

given me an understanding with how the world works. I now have an interest in all sociological

approaches because of what I have learned in previous classes. I think they can all go hand in

hand with one another in the ways people think, feel, act, and apply that to the world. I really

enjoyed the signature assignment in this class in which I was able to connect something in my

real life to this class. I chose to present the topic of Roller Derby and how it can be seen in the

perspective of a sociologist. I really liked this because it is something I am closely connected

with and it gave me a better understanding of what sociological perspectives can work best with

what. My perspective of how the world works has changed while taking this class. I didn’t have

much of an understanding prior of how specifics of a society can impact the economy. I didn’t

know about terms such as environmental racism, global perspective, etc. Overall, it was nice to

be able to apply what I learned in this class to how I look at the world.
