Primary Claim:

- Abortions should retain their legality in all of the fifty states because it is a personal right

Subclaims:

- Abortions prevent many women from enduring health promblems, trauma, and in some

cases death.

- Abortions also allow for women who are not ready for a child, do not have the finances to

take care of a child, or simply do not want a child to make that decision for themselves.

27 October 2021 Addressing Counter Arguments

A. My thesis: Abortions should retain their legality in the United States not

only because they are a personal right established in multiple court cases,

but because of the various medical and personal reasons a woman may

have to get one.

B. 1 reason supporting my thesis: A womans right to a legal and safe

abortion was established in the Supreme Court Roe v Wade.

C. 1 counterargument to this reason: The Supreme Court's decision in Roe v.

Wade exceeds its constitutional authority.

D. 1 way I'll address this counterargument: Although Congress holds the

powers to create laws in the United States, the Supreme Court holds the

power to declare said laws unconstitutional. By declaring multiple laws

 established in order to prevent abortions unconstitutional, the Supreme

Court is establishing the right to an abortion.

3 November 2021 Reverse Outline

1. The decision made by the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade (1973) the courts held that

women have the right to terminate their pregnancy.

2. The Supreme Court is not the only thing that supports the legality of abortions, the right

to privacy and personal rights support it as well.

3. By creating a negative stigma around abortions and the women who get them,

anti-abortion activists are ignoring the important reasons women get them.

4. Although America is said to be the land of the free, the citizens directly try to take away

the freedoms of women.

5. Women get abortions for various reasons and should not be denied them simply because

of a personal belief.

This outline shows good organization by showing that the topics are connected. I would

like to change the sudden jump between the second and third ideas to a more smooth transition. I

think that overall my outline has a strong legal and political backbone which makes it easier to

organize the topics as they are all connected together. The reasons behind why women get

abortions will shed a light further on why they should remain legal. I am proud of the utilization

of the Supreme Court Cases as well as laws and rights in order to back my main claim.
