STATEMENT OF THE DESIGN PROBLEM

Bananas should be harvested at the physiological maturity stage for better harvest quality. It is
always harvested by hand using a two-person team, one person cuts and the other carries the bunch
away. Each bunch of bananas is individually placed upright onto a trailer that is padded. Padding is also
placed on each side to prevent any rubbing between bunches.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DESIGN

To solve the specified problems of the design, the following objectives of the design of a

bucket elevator with a horizontal conveyor for a corn storage facility are as follows:

1. To understand and conceptualize the process of harvesting and transportation of bananas.

2. To apply the concepts of industrial design methodologies in the learned in the course.

3. To provide an essential component for the transportation of bananas.

5. To understand and design a banana belt conveyor for a banana plantation facility.

6. To guarantee stability in work and application of the banana belt conveyor.

7. To ensure that the banana plantation facility will maintain high productivity.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE DESIGN

The design of a banana belt conveyor with a chain driven motor, step chain driven pallet, and
belt driven handrail would guarantee that:

a. The design can be beneficial to the workers and the owners as the machine will lessen the
workload and lessen workload will result in lesser workers.

b. The design can be beneficial to the consumers by having bananas of high quality, which prevents
the degradation of the bananas from the conventional type of transportation.

c. The design can be beneficial to the facility as it improves their productivity.
