Design and Selection of Generator

Gas Turbine Generator (GTG) and Steam Turbine Generator (STG) will have the following
specifications as shown below.

Type of Generator Cooling System

The generators for the gas turbine and the steam turbine shall be of air cooled or H 2 gas cooled
type. Either air-cooled and H2 gas cooled system can adapt to the gas turbine generator and the steam
turbine generator. The manufacturer should have the experience of installing at least two (2) air cooled
and at least two (2) hydrogen cooled generator, with capacities not lower than the required capacity for
this powerplant, which is 70MW, operating on IEC conditions.

Comparison of Generator Cooling System

In recent technological advancements of cooling performance and windage loss reduction, an

air-cooled system is adopted in generators as high as 300MVA class. Hydrogen cooled generators are
more efficient and also has less mass of materials of construction than the air-cooled generator. On the
other hand, the air cooled has a simple system, easy operation and maintenance, and it is also cost
efficient.
