Rotary Knife or said cut to length application with print mark correction is command used in all

industries. Today many Motions Controller give solution on this. I mean with hardware cut to length
function block is available. you have to simply entered your mechanical data like rotary diameter,
sync angle, cut length …etc. no doute on function block, it is working ok, and you get result what you
want. I have also taken trial and result is good. But today we are going to discuss if you have not
such function block and you have cut to length application with Print mark Correction. Then the
simple solution is here

1. Function
This Standard function Block, parameter, and its working principle
Many Motions Controller has this function block is not available. so, we are going to discussed
how we can create this motion profile.

Step 1. Selection of servo Motor.

Using servo sizing tool, we can select the servo motor

Step 2. Home Position and Programming.

Main Pulling Motor Does not require home position. Rotary cutter servo requires Home Position.

Home position We will keep the knife of Rotary Servo, just before it touches the paper.

You have to create CAM profile in motion controller. Here we are going to discuss two cut
lengths

1. Cut length = 200 mm.

When cut length is less than rotary circumference, during the syn angle it match the line speed
and rest of position it moves very fast.

2. Cut length = 600 mm.

 When cut length is greater than rotary circumference, during the syn angle it match the line
speed and rest of position it moves slow.

Step 3. Print mark Correction.

Distance between two captured positions is theoretically equal to length to cut. Now suppose
your cut length is 200 mm and print mark is detected 199 mm then you have to do superimpose of
rotary drive. Superimpose distance is 1 mm.

Conclusion.

Today every motion controller and software have rotary knife function block. But if block is not
available then using CAM function you can do same application. other benefit is you can modify your
logic and parameter according to your requirement.
