Lecture # 9: How to Node… ^_^

Department of Mechatronics and Control Engineering

 Four steps approach
 First step: Identify total nodes in your electric circuit.
 Second step: Pick a reference node and label all other nodes using a
labels such as V1, V2, V3 etc.
 Third step: Indicate current flow direction at all nodes and apply KCL.
A word of advice; always assign current direction as leaving the node.
Use KCL to form equations in terms of V1, V2, V3 etc.
 Forth step: Solve these equations to get Nodal Voltages….. Simple…
^_^
 Example: Calculate node voltages
 Example: Calculate Node voltages once again 
 Example: You know what to do… ^_^
 Example: ^_^
 Example: Find “v” and “i”
 Example: Determine Node Voltages using Nodal Analysis
 Limitation of Mesh Analysis
 Nodal Analysis is more general than Mesh analysis
 Mesh Analysis can only be applied to PLANAR Circuits…

Planar Circuit
A circuit which can be
drawn fully on one
plane…
