About Banati
The situation of at-risk children, and those living on the street, composes
a vital yet complex topic that affects the Egyptian society as a whole.
Addressing it is an ambitious target, often coupled with a harsh reality
correlated with mental, physical and sexual abuse.

Serving the marginalized and ostracized by society, Banati Foundation, now

a pioneer in targeting girls and young women, was established in 2010.
Throughout its years of serving beneficiaries—comprising of children and
young mothers at risk, Banati has developed a holistic, child participatory
approach through four main pillars:

Our Five Year
Strategic Goals
Our Goals and Objectives for 2018-2023 reflect the Foundation’s
efforts to expand and improve the services offered, and ensure
the sustainability of all the projects it implements.

This is done through our four-pillar strategy:

To raise awareness about the phenomenon of at-risk

To provide the optimum protection for Banati’s children. children.

This will be achieved through applying international quality Through the enhancement of community outreach by being

Banati will raise awareness about the phenomenon in the
community, while also working on eliminating the stigma
related to being a girl at risk and/or on the street, and
providing the required protection for its beneficiaries.

To sustain the organization financially and operationally.

Mission
Banati is an Egyptian Foundation seeking to be a center of
excellence in rehabilitation and research serving girls who
are on the street or girls who are at risk of being in street
situations by developing a unique social and psychological
rehabilitation program and providing education, safety and
equal opportunity through advocacy, capacity building and
the development of guidelines.

Vision
Providing a second chance for children at risk, empowering
them to overcome their dismal psychosocial conditions
and to become effective citizens. Banati accomplishes this
through a comprehensive rehabilitation program that is
revised regularly to ensure that it is on par with international
care standards and to render Banati Foundation a center of
excellence emulated by those working in the field in Egypt
and the Middle East.

How we work
Banati Foundation operates through four centers to guarantee a full
and complete cycle of intervention and to ensure it offers the best
quality service. The Foundation has a Mobile Unit, a Reception Center
and two shelters—one serves as a temporary shelter and the other Mobile Unit in numbers:

1091
serves as a permanent shelter.

All the centers are linked to one another and there are ongoing
referrals and transfers done between them.

Mobile Unit

Building trust

The Mobile Unit helps with the early detection of vulnerabilities

and is concerned with helping children at risk and children in
street situations improve their lives. It is the first point of contact
and aims to build a relationship and trust, as well as map the
areas where there are economic activities and other areas that
are considered safe spaces for children on the street. Many of the Services were delivered through
children served, have been through severe abuse and neglect and the mobile unit
just need to be heard and supported.

99
Through the Mobile Unit, Banati’s social workers and
psychologists provide children with all the basic services that they
do not have access to, such as health and medical services, food,
clothes, and psychological and social support. Thus, strengthening
the relationship between the Foundation and children and
increasing trust and confidence towards the Foundation. This,
consequently, contributes to the process of their reintegration and
street life abandonment. Therefore, Banati pays specific attention
to this program, believing in its on-the-ground impact.
Children and young mothers were
transferred from the Mobile Unit
In May 2018, the Ministry of Social Solidarity has allocated one to the Reception Center
of its Mobile Units to Banati, in recognition of the Foundation’s
commitment, experience, knowledge and work on the ground with
children in street situations.

the relationship and help to reunite them together.

its two shelters Banati provides permanent accommodation for
children ages 7-18, food, clothes and medical care. Assuring a
maximum protective environment for resident girls, Banati has
made sure that its premises are safe, accessible, child-friendly,
and well-monitored.

The Temporary Shelter:

The Temporary Shelter has a capacity to host up to 12 girls. The

shelter hosts critical cases that need maximum level of protection
and psychological support. When the cases are more stable and
ready to receive usual rehabilitative services, they get transferred
to the permanent shelter. In cases where reintegration is possible,
the team works on doing so, after ensuring that it is a safe
environment for her and that she will not go back to the streets.

The Permanent Shelter:

The Permanent Shelter can host up to 218 children. The shelter

takes in younger cases that need longer rehabilitation and
integration periods. Banati’s in-shelter beneficiaries receive basic
services, including: A private bed in a room shared with others
in a family setting, where they have access to a living room and
an open area, three meals a day, and different services, per each
