Problem statement:

Static Structural analysis of connecting rod in ANSYS.

Aims of the study:

We will be able to analyze the tactics and fundamental mechanism involved in the working of
connecting rod of engine by using boundry conditions analyzed.
Objective:
Static Structural analysis for connecting rod coil tube in the tube heat exchanger the part of a
piston engine which connects the piston to the crankshaft. From this analysis, we will be able to
simulate the basics of any type of connecting rod and will get the knowledge of static structural
properties of the connecting rod.
Proposed methodology:

 Create geometry in an SOLIDWORKS.

 Export in ANSYS.
 Extract Structural Analysis.
 Apply boundary conditions assume crank shaft is not rotating and apply fixed support at end
of the connecting rod and apply compressor load at top of the connecting rod.
 Processing simulation
 Monitoring residuals
 Plotting results
For simulation of Connecting rod, first, we have to create a Connecting rod model using
SolidWorks software. After creating the geometry and importing in ANSYS, the problem is
analyzed in ANSYS. As this is the part of piston which connects piston with crank shaft assume
crank shaft is not rotating and apply fixed support at crank shaft part of connecting rod and
apply compressive load at the top of the connecting rod respectively. Insert the Solutions like
Total Deformation, Deformation along X,Y,Z and equivalent stress.
Advantages of Connecting Rod:

 A new connecting rod, no risk of micro-welding, or other previous deposit.

 A "new" metrology no deformation due to use.
 Connecting rods balanced to the nearest gram.
 A forged steel with much better mechanical characteristics.
Applications
The connecting rod converts the reciprocating motion of the piston to the rotation of the
crankshaft. Conrods are applied in various engines of automobiles. The connecting rod is used
in all types of vehicles such as cars, trucks, and bikes.
