Complex Engineering Problem (CEP)
Analyze the given 1-D beam shown in Figure 1 using ANSYS with the given data below and find
out the following: (Total marks = 10, C3-CLO2-PLO2, C4-CLO3-PLO5)

Qz # 1. (a) From FEA results, find out the distance of the node from the fixed end having
maximum magnitude of deflection and mention its value (Marks = 1, C3-CLO2-
PLO2). (b) Moreover, compare your numerical results with the analytical calculation
by applying your knowledge of course Mechanical of Materials. (Marks 3, C4-CLO3-
PLO5)
Qz # 2. From FEA model, find out the position of the element which is having more bending
stress and its magnitude. (Marks = 1, C3-CLO2-PLO2)
Qz # 3. Find out the deflection of a beam at the node 1.45m from the fixed end? (Marks = 1,
C3-CLO2-PLO2)
Qz # 4. Plot a graph describing the distributions of stress and strain along the beam length and
interpret the results. (Marks = 2, C3-CLO2-PLO2)

Qz # 5. Compute the weight of beam for FE model, and compare it with your manual
calculation. (Marks 2, C4-CLO3-PLO5)

PS:
• All dimensions are in meters.
• The beam cross-section: 0.05m × 0.05m.
• All concentrated and distributed loads are acting on the beam are in downward direction.
• Density = 7850 kg/m3
• Modulus of Elasticity E (see excel sheet to get its value)
• Assume data if missing any.
