Host: Good evening.Welcome to your number one TV show and without further ado.

Our guest tonight is none other than


the individual who was dubbed as “La Naval de Manila” Starting as a proofreader for the Philippine Free Press,He rose to
contributing editor and essayist under the nom de plume “Quijano de Manila” a writer of short stories,a playwright and a
novelist. The Man, The Myth, The Legend Himself Mr.Nick Joaquin.
Host: Big round of applause everybody.
(Audience: claps*).
Nick: (Waves*) Thank you, Thank you
Host: And im your will be intertaining our valued guest tonight. Were gonna be doing a quick QnA Mr.Nick hope you’ll
be ok with that. But before we get into our QnA lets have you talk about yourself a little bit Mr.Nick can you tell us more
about yourself.
Nick: Ah Yes.Sure, Im a writer and journalist im greatly acknowledge for my short stories and novels in the English
Language. And despite me being a native Spanish speaker my works were written in the English Language. Also Before I
become one of the leading practitioners of Philippine literature in English, I was a seminarian in Hong Kong if some fo
you didn’t know.
Host: So Mr. Joaquin are you ready for our quick QnA.?
Nick: Yes,Im Ready

Host: What are some of your most famous works?
Nick: Among my voluminous works, I say The Woman Who Had Two Navels,A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino,My
Manila: A History for the Young, The Ballad of the Five Battles and many more but those works are the only I can
remember at this time.
Host: Great Lets continue with our second question. When did you start writing and whats your first piece created?
Nick: 1934 I started writing short stories,poems and essay and actually my first poem, a piece about Don Quixote actually
appeared on the Tribune in 1935 I was overjoyed at that time.
Host: It sounds to me that you have a great talent in literature,low and behold here you are now one of the best/most
important Filipino writers, And a question to those aspiring writers who wanted to follow your footsteps can you tell us
how do you write your stories?
Nick: Sure, I make it my works realistic and I add in a bit of consciousness and in numerous essay I greatly oppose the
pointless imitation and promote the originality and independence of once work.
Host: Its been a pleasant evening Mr.Nick and thank you for accepting our invitation, Unfortunately we running out of

Nick: As I said before don’t imitate and be original on that note I give you this saying: “The identity of the Filipino today
is of a person asking what is his identity”
