2.0 Minimum Requirements: The minimum duration of the undergraduate degree programs shall not be less than four
-:-:- academic years in case of Engineering,Technol ogy, Computer Science, City and Regional Planning, Product and Industrial
Design, Business Administration and five academic years in case of Architecture. Prior to Session 2008, Building and
ic

Architectural Engineering was a five years degree program.

The total minimum credit hours required for the award of B.Sc. and Bachelor's degree is 130 in case of four academic
year program and 162 for a five years program.
pl

The total minimum cred it hours required for the award of M.Sc/ M.Arch/ M. Phil degree is 30.
The total minimum credit hours required for the award of 16 years equivalent Masters degree of various denominations
varies from 60 to 75 after a 14 years equivalent degree.
Ap

3.0 Academic Achievement Measure: Students' academic achievement in each semester is reflected by the Semester Grade
Point Average (GPA) and the overall perfonnance is reflected by the Cumulative Grade point Average (CGPA). Both out of a
maximum of 4.00.
4.0 Subject Repeat Policy: Repeated subjects are shown with a (R) as suffix to the grade earned. In case of repetition
of a subject, the new grade earned, whether high or low, replaces the previous grade in computation of CGPA. In case a student
earns a "W" or " WF" grade in a subject being repeated, the previous grade earned in that subject will be retained in computation
ofCGPA and in assessing degree completion requirements.

5.0 Subject Classification: The word (Th) suffixed to a subject name represents Theory and (Pr) represents Practical on the
transcript. Some subjects may not be suffixed implying Theory only. In some cases, the subject number with a suffix " L" wou ld
represent practical of the subject having the number without th is suffix.
6.0 Bachelor's and 16 years Masters Degree Qualification Requirements: A minimum CGPA of2.0 is required for the
award of degree in the prescribed subject with no outstanding subject with a "W" grade and / or ' F' grade.

7.0 M.Sc./ M. Phil/ M. Arch Degree Qualification Requirements: A minimum of 30 credit hours with a CGPA of at least 2.5.
This may comprise of 24 credit hours of course work and 6 credit hours of thesis, Or, 30 credit hours of course work
with a non-credit design project.
8.0 CGPA and Percentage Equivalence: CGPA and Percentage systems are two different systems of assessment and no
equivalence as such can be specified. In CG PA system, grades reflect relative pos ition of the student in the class whereas
Percentage system is an absolute grading system refl ecting actual marks earned in the examination.

9.0 Language of Instruction: The language of instruction at the University is English.

Subject: Letter of Purpose for a Master’s Program in Petroleum Engineering

tC
From a very young age, Mathematics and Chemistry have always been the subjects close to my heart. I
have always been curious about finding the scientific logic behind any activity, especially while growing
up I read many books on the oil war and international relations. I was amazed to realize that one liquid
can be so important; hence, it is called the “black gold”. After deep pondering and scope assessment, I
an
have concluded that an MS in petroleum engineering is the best progression for my academic journey.

The undergraduate curriculum in Petroleum and Gas Engineering at University of Engineering and
Technology Lahore, introduces me to a wide variety of engineering subjects which includes various
ic

courses like Fundamental of Petroleum Engineering, Drilling Engineering I&II, Well Logging, Reservoir
Engineering, Principle of Reservoir Simulation, Reservoir Management, Properties of Reservoir Fluids, Gas
pl

Reservoir Engineering, Natural Gas Processing & Pipeline Management, Production Engineering I&II,
Petrophysics, Petroleum Geology & Geophysical Exploration, Well Testing, and Enhance Oil Recovery. I
also have knowledge about software skills like PipeSim, Eclipse Simulator, Kappa Ecrin, IPM Suit, and MS
Ap

Office.

I have also completed supplementary courses that will make up for the shortcomings in my academic
knowledge and expand my horizons. It also helped improve my independent study skills. To be informed
of the current trends and advances in technology, I regularly read the magazine and occasionally the SPE
journals.

I was the general secretary of the SPE Lahore student chapter during my third year. Along with detailed
planning and budgeting of university events, most of my time was spent on persuading and motivating
my fellow council members to carry out necessary tasks. These responsibilities have markedly improved
my communication, organizational, and leadership skills. The experience has taught me valuable decision
making and team management skills.

As a recent graduate, my experience with the professional world is limited to internship. However, I
decided to pursue higher education before committing myself to professional life. This seemed like the
optimal decision based on a few factors. Firstly, the modern job markets are highly competitive and there
is little edge graduation alone can provide. Also, the leading companies are looking for candidates with
specialization. Considering this, I decided to focus my education on accruing specific skillsets and
knowledge in the petroleum industry.
Statement of Purpose Abdullah Muhammad Ishaq
10300181

I am much passionate and motivated to learn about the new technologies related to petroleum
engineering so that I have a deep understanding of the problems facing by today’s industry. I am eager to
attend a Master of Petroleum Engineering to understand the solutions by which need of energy can be
fulfilled. The good reputation of high-quality education standards, an extremely distinguished faculty
members, and research facilities are the factors which have motivated me to choose for my Master studies
at the KAUST. Moreover, the research work of Dr. Hussein Hotei motivated and attracted my attentions

y
to work under his supervision. I have a keen interest in his work for he feasibly of CO2 storage in a deep
aquifer in Saudi Arabia, and I will be very grateful if he accepts my proposal for doing my MSc program

op
under his supervision.

I believe that pursuing MSc in Petroleum Engineering from KAUST will equip me with the necessary skills
and confidence to achieve my goals. I am hopeful that after completing my master’s degree, I will rejoin

tC
the industry as a more knowledgeable professional and I can teach in the best universities in my country
or abroad.
