Objective:
Determine the meter internal resistance
using three methods.
Equipment:
-voltage source
-Resistor
-variable resistor
-Multimeter
-Wires
Setup Procedure:
A)Case of Voltmeter:

Rs
MI
Vs
2xfs
a) Put Rs=max value
b) Vs=2Xfs=Value
c) Decrease Rs till Mi Reads FS; Ii x Rs
This mean Rm=Rs
Readings for this method:
Rm=Rs=3x1000+1x100+100+10=3210 ohms
B)Case of Ammeter:
(We do it the same in the previous report )
C)General case (voltmeter or ampermeter):
The same forme of circuit for the first
method.
1)connect the circuit with R=max value
2)Decrease R till MI reads Is(Rfs)
This mean Ifs=5/(Rfs+Rm)
3)Increase R till MI reads half scale (Rhs)
This mean Ifs2 = Rhs5+ R
We can deduce that :
Rm=Rhs-2Rfs
Readings for this method:
Rfs=1000+1000+100+10=2110 ohms
Rhs=7000 ohms
Rm=Rhs-2Rfs
Rm=7000-2(2110)=2700 ohms
Ifs= Rm +5 Rfc
5=Ihs= Ifs2 (Rm+Rhs)
5 5
Ifs= 2(Rm+ Rhs)= 2(2700+7000)=2.5x10^-4 A.
Conclusion:
So we have seen that we have three
different method to determine the meter
internal resistance but we can deduce that
the third one is more general and we can
use it in all cases.
